Abdur Rahman Chughtai (Pakistani,1897-1975), "Untitled (Young Woman with Flower)", watercolor on paper, signed in red at left. Figural painting depicting a young maiden in a long bright marigold yellow gown with veil wearing ornate jewelry walking in an outdoor setting with large pink lotus flower on shoulder with insect, smaller flower in hand dropped to side, background marked with green islands amid water with white cranes. Framed approximately 34.8" x 29.125". Unframed approximately 27.5" x 21.9". Provenance: Sold by Arif Rahman Chughtai (the artist's son and director of Chughtai Museum in Lehore, Pakistan to the Former United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Benjamin Oehlert, Atlanta, Georgia thence by descent to his family. We are thankful to Mr. Arif Rahman Chughtai for endorsing these works.
Painting in very good condition with light toning to sheet and scattered minor foxing. No signs of paint losses or in-painting. No holes, rips, tears or water damage. Verso of sheet with two remnants of hinging tape and scattered paint marks.
