Abdur Rahman Chughtai (Pakistani,1897-1975), "Evensong", drypoint etching and aquatint, pencil signed lower left, titled in pencil lower right. Figural print depicting two cloven animals (one with horns) beside a stylized tree at left with bare branches with a small patch of leaves. Framed approximately 25" x 16". Sight size approximately 14.5" x 7.25". Provenance: Sold by Arif Rahman Chughtai (the artist's son and director of Chughtai Museum in Lehore, Pakistan to the Former United States Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Benjamin Oehlert, Atlanta, Georgia thence by descent to his family. We are thankful to Mr. Arif Rahman Chughtai for endorsing these works. Sheet laid down on masonite. Two corners cut diagonally. Light toning to sheet. Scattered foxing and handling dirt discoloration to sheet, predominately throughout margins, slightly crossing over to image at lower and upper sections. Visible remnants of older hinging tape at right side. Sheet has been cut down. No signs of rips, tears or holes.
