Chinese, Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Chinese Export porcelain famille rose and gilt enamel decorated oval platter, possibly Qianlong period (1735-1795), the rim decorated with iron red and gilt stylized motif with cartouches of cobalt and white scroll work along with a floral painted border, the interior base with a peacock and his hen standing on rocks beside peony and rockwork within an gilt and iron red spear or arrow tip border. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 1.5", width 14.75", depth 11.75". Note: The Choice of a Private Trader" David S. Howard, ill. p. 115: "This was a popular pattern at the time and rendered more popular because the Portuguese royal family owned a large service which was particularly favored by King John VI (reigned 1816-1826) and Queen Carlota."
Very good to excellent condition with light dirt and grime--would likely benefit from light professional cleaning. Scattered minor glazing imperfections--not particularly noticeable. Light wear to gilt on edges. Wear to bottom of base commensurate with age and shelf use. No signs of chips, nicks or damage. No signs of restoration.
