Chinese, circa 1770. Chinese Export porcelain teapoy or tea caddy painted in Mandarin palette, baluster form with conforming domed lid and ball finial decorated with floral vingettes, the body decorated with figural reserve panels on white ground interspersed by panels of scenic landscape and foliage, the foot with a band of open work stylized waves around the base, apparently unmarked. Approximate height 5.12". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G. Muecke Jr., Atlanta, Georgia.
Repair to neck of teapoy visible under black light running approximately 3/4 of the diameter. Minor flea bites to foot. Wear to gilt elements commensurate with age and use. Minor hairline crack to foot, however, structurally sound. Small loss to bottom of one spiral above foot. Light wear to bottom commensurate with age and shelf use.
