Chinese, 18th century. A Chinese export armorial porcelain cup and saucer made for the Western market, each piece with serpentine shaped rim over thin and wide bands of blue underglaze patterning, solid gilt band, and gadrooned gilt band, the underbowl with a central medallion of a coat of arms with red shield form, blue cape lined in ermine, and a scaly fish crest, the same coat of arms repeated to the exterior cavetto of cup on both sides. Underbowl approximate diameter 6.25". Cup approximate diameter 4.5".
Both pieces with some small scratches and gilt loss particularly to rim. Saucer with two minute flakes at rim of mouth. Also tight vertical fracture at mouth approximately 1". Cup with two flakes to rim approximately .25" and .3" along with flea bite at rim. Firing pop with glaze loss (see image #8). Minor loss and/or fading of painted decoration and wear to foot commensurate with age and contact with surface.
