Chinese, late 19th/ early 20th century. A carved and gilt wood sculpture in the round depicting the Kuan Yin of 1000 Arms, the Buddhist deity seated upon a double lotus blossom pedestal with legs crossed in the lotus position, two hands clasped to front of chest in namaste mudra, and many arms outstretched in a halo behind representing many mudras and holding many precious objects, a round disc behind sitter with stylized flames to outer edge and many more arms jutting out from its surface, verso of sculpture with central lotus blossom carving surrounded by radiating rays of light. Overall approximately 24.5" x 21.25" x 12".
Overall good condition. There are chips with loss to the stylized flames at outer edge along with some wood loss to hands (see image #8). There is wear to the gilt surface (see image #2). Shrinkage to the wood (see image #10). Scattered chips and cracks commensurate with age. There are additional arms not photographed that are included with the sculpture.
