Chinese, 19th century. Porcelain console or center bowl with figural scene in blue and white scholarly men and young male attendants in outdoor setting examining scroll document amid flying bats against celadon green glazed ground, interior of bowl with white glaze. Apparently unmarked. Applied dedicatory plaque on bottom reading "To CAROLINE RAKESTRAW with Affection and Appreciation from The Board of Trustees The Episcopal Radio-TV Foundation October 17, 1980". Work accompanied with copy of document from Holland and Company, The Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, Atlanta, Georgia with information on work. Approximate height 4.5" (without stand), diameter 10.5".
Fleabites to rim and foot with further chips/losses to underside of foot. Many chips and losses to raised figural motif on tondo. Interior with adhesive residue. Overall with craquelure and minor surface scratches to glaze commensurate with age. Stand overall with minor scratches to surface.
