Chinese, likely 18th century. Hand carved stone Buddhist figural tomb or funerary sculpture with arched niche with three figures in upper center in relief above haloed patterning surrounding seated Buddha with one leg bent against opposite thigh and palms extended out (one up and one down) in fearlessness (fear not) mudra. Buddha figure with urna, elongated earlobes, calm facial expression and draped robes. Buddha flanked by guardian lions below Guanyin or Quanyin deity (mercifulness) figures on lotus form bases. Lower section with two figures with stylized draping supporting architectural form above with protective dragon peeks out of niche at center. Verso of work with inscription indicating the work may be circa 1740-1800 and whimsical view of dragon's tail. Approximate height 27", width 15.9", depth 5.25".
Scattered chips and scratches to edges commensurate with age. Dirt and grime on exterior would benefit from professional cleaning. Loss to figure’s ring finger on upturned hand, loss to second (index) toe on foot resting against interior of leg.
