English, first half 18th century. Charles II style oak chest of drawers with molded rectangular top and foliate carved cornice over a pair of short drawers and three graduated drawers, all drawers with locking mechanisms, the faces with geometrically molded panel decoration, the stand with raised geometric pattern supported by four foliate carved, turned and block legs united by a wavy shaped cross stretcher and terminating on ball feet. Approximate height 66", width 45", depth 24".
Structurally sound. Horizontal shrinkage to left side of case (see image #3). Scattered chips, nicks and abrasions as would be expected particularly to legs; not distracting. Top is slightly warping. Gapping from shrinkage at the back (see image #9). Shrinkage present in all drawer bases. Crack with nail repair at divider under the two top drawers. Hardware and locks are not original to the piece. Partial missing dustboard. Mildew present in drawers.
