Carol Haerer (American (1993-2002), "Untitled", oil on canvas, signed in red on verso of canvas. Vibrant lyrical abstract painting in shades of red, orange, blue and white. Unframed approximately 53" x 33.75". Dated 1957. Provenance: Acquired from the Estate of Carol Haerer in New York directly from artist's husband, Philip Wofford. Note: Haerer's paintings were exhibited in the Whitney Museum's Biennials of 1969 and 1971. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, The Brooklyn Museum and many other museums and universities. Haerer taught at many prestigious institutions including Bennington College, the Chicago Art Institute, Fordham University and Parsons School of Art and Design.
Painting unframed and on original canvas. Colors rich and vibrant. Under black light inspection, little to no signs of in-painting. Possible scattered minor abrasions or scratches to paint layer--however difficult to discern if these are original to the work and created by the artist or later wear. Thick impasto areas of paint and edges with scattered craquelure commensurate with age. Paint layer stable with no signs of lifting. No signs of tears, holes or rips.
