Carol Haerer (American, 1933-2000), "Untitled"-1957, oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Vibrant lyrical abstract painting depicting shades in orange, yellow, purple and green in expressive patches. Framed approximately 33.875"x 29.875". Unframed approximately 33.75" x 29.375". Provenance: Acquired from the Estate of Carol Haerer in New York directly from artist's husband, Philip Wofford. Note: Haerer's paintings were exhibited in the Whitney Museum's Biennials of 1969 and 1971. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, The Brooklyn Museum and many other museums and universities. Haerer taught at many prestigious institutions including Bennington College, the Chicago Art Institute, Fordham University and Parsons School of Art and Design.
Examined under black light. Very small scattered minor paint losses, not distracting. Craquelure to some areas where paint is more thickly applied. Few small areas of paint loss under temporary frame, namely to lower right corner and left edge below center. No other apparent losses, abrasions, tears, or punctures.
