Carl Weber (American, 1850-1921), "View Near For Washington", oil on canvas, signed lower right, verso of stretcher with label from Newman Galleries in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with basic information on work. Horizontal aligned pastoral painting depicting a rustic barn surrounded by trees and fields separated by rustic wooden fencing with three cows in foreground near shallow water with young boy in hat keeping watch. Framed approximately 28.25" x 44.125". Unframed approximately 22" x 38".
Painting has been relined. One small paint loss lower left of center in water. Under black light examination, scattered in painting on edges from rubbing on frame, small section above cottage at left and above distant tree line on horizon at left. Retouches also present in lower left corner--however, not obstructing or interfering with signature. Many retouches to clouds in sky. In-painting relatively extensive in clouds and scattered and sparse throughout the rest of the work. No signs of rips, tears, holes or water damage.
