George Howson (English (London), 1896, circa 1905. A heavy and fine sterling silver standish or desk inkwell set comprising a silver platform with curved serpentine back and squared front with serpentine rim, the back with a pierced three section gallery set behind two shallow rings securing two cut glass globular inkwells with sterling collars and hinged lids, the standish front with a shallow basin for holding a pen or quill bordered with a band of molded scrolls, the whole raised on three scrolling feet. Marked to top of tray with "GH" within a rectangular cartouche beside lion rampant standard mark, uncrowned leopard head for London production, and date code for 1905. Each inkwell marked to top of lid with maker's mark, standard, and date marks. Approximate width 10.125", depth 7.5", height 2.875". Approximate weight of silver tray 24.4 troy ounces.
Very good condition overall. No damage or restorations noted.
