Butler Brown (American (Macon, Georgia), b.1937). "Country Church"-1973, oil on masonite, signed and dated lower right. Skillfully rendered painting depicting a Southern American white wooden church at center with meandering dirt path leading up to it surrounded tall green grass, the church structure with tall peaked gray shingled roof to bell tower at center, at right of church lies cemetery with grave stones, the church and graveyard backed by a line of dense green trees. Paper label to verso from Anne Tutt Studio-Gallery, Macon, Georgia, another label to verso with typed text reading "Country Church, Oil, Loaned by Mrs. Butler Brown, Hawkinsville" with "21" and "NFS", verso of work also inscribed with dedicatory message in pencil "To Laverne, May God bless and keep you always. Love, Butler 11/9/73". Framed approximately 18.5" x 21.375". Sight size approximately 11.5" x 14.25". Note: Butler Brown's work hung in White House during Jimmy Carter's presidency as part of the President's private collection.
