Flemish (Brussels), Late 16th century (circa 1580). Renaissance period hand woven tapestry textile figural panel with garden and hunting motif depicting a group of men hunting with two young boys in garden setting with trees and foliage, upper left with palace, owls in upper right perched amid trees. Scene contained within arched architectural borders, lower corners with putti or cherubs flanking curtained swag, below lions with upturned tails, upper corners with standing figures holding leashes connected to winged mythical beasts (perhaps gryphon) below large flying butterflies on side of urn with facial and leaf tip decoration. Unmarked. Overall approximately 32" x 18.5". Provenance: Joanna Booth, 247 Kings Road, Chelsea, London, England whereby acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia in October of 1995.
