Continental (Likely German, circa 1830). A flame maple veneered armoire decorated with black lacquer and partial gilding, the cornice trimmed in gilt foliate pattern, surmounting rounded convex door frame with striking highly figured maple veneers, the doors separated by a black lacquered molded strip, the keyhole framed by an inlaid elm shield form and conforming inlaid shield on adjacent door, doors opening to an interior comprising of a golden oak interior with one upper shelf, each door flanked by half round black lacquer veneered columns with gilt foliate carved capitals terminating in gilt ring turnings over black lacquered plinths, all resting on flame mahogany veneered plinth base on black lacquered bracket feet. Approximate height 78", width (widest point) 50", depth 15.5".
Structurally sound. Scattered surface scratches and knicks, commensurate with age and usage. Scattered loss to gilt. Slight warping to sides near base. Large area of separation and shrinking to back (see images 2 & 3). Probably missing lower interior shelf or decorative element (see image 2). Interior molding loose at top. Scratches to finish at base from opening and closing doors. Faux locks appear to be a later addition. Feet also appear to be a later addition.
