Bernard Buffet (French, 1928-1999). "Monkey Pianist", lithograph in colors, limited edition 2/120, pencil numbered lower left margin, pencil signed lower right of center margin. Chromolithograph print in Buffet's noted colorblock style depicting a small monkey dressed in green jacket, tiny top hat, and yellow pants as he sits at a miniature baby grand piano on six rolling legs, the background a saturated crimson red setting off the monkey's tan face with weathered expression, the composition characterized by thick and fast black brushstrokes filled with fields of color. Sheet size approximately 28.375" x 20.125". Image size approximately 26.75" x 18.5".
Unframed. White sheet laid down to tan sheet, the tan sheet with several losses to edges on each side; the white sheet with loss to upper left edge and center right edge with neither infringing on the matrix. Allover with mat burn and light, even toning. Four graphite pencil marks, one to each edge, pointing to edge of mat burn - likely framer's marks. Sheet with minor rippling commensurate with general handling. Verso of tan sheet with tape remnants to each edge. No further apparent losses or tears, no pinholes or abrasions.
