Attributed to Mitchell and Rammelsberg Furniture Company, (American (Cincinnati, Ohio) 1846–1881), third quarter 19th century. American Rococo Revival walnut half tester bed, the serpentine tester surmounted with a pair of turned wood finials over a pair of inverted finials and centering a floral scrolled cabochon raised on segmented turned posts and further supported by pierced scrolled brackets, the headboard with broken swan neck arch centered with a crest carved in the form of a cabochon flanked by foliate-carved scrolls, over a pair of raised shaped panels and recessed shaped panels centered with applied roundel , the arched and wrap footboard centered by an applied roundel flanked by raised shaped panels and joined to the headboard by straight rails. Approximate height 115”, width 59.75”, depth 78.75”. Interior width 57.5”, depth 75”.
Structurally sound. Fabric from tester is missing. Finial that sits in center of tester over fabric is missing. Repairs with traces of old glue to the cresting on canopy, scrolled end of right side footboard and pierced spandrels. There is a chip with loss under the left side finial at tester. There is missing corner molding under the right side finial at tester. Replaced screws on the side rail. No slats. Wear is commensurate with age and usage.
