American, 19th century. American mahogany chest of drawers with rectangular top over a frieze mounted with 3 cross-banded panels, the central one concealing a hidden drawer over three deep drawers decorated with stylized stringing above three long, graduated drawers, each drawer with yellow pine secondary, individual locking mechanisms, large wood turned decorative pulls, beaded and inset with ivory escutcheons, separated by dust boards and raised on front French feet united by a shaped apron. Approximate height 47.25", width 47", depth 22".
The chest of drawers is in good condition. All inlay remains intact. The top exhibits a split as well as a slight surface cracks and indentations, very slight veneer lifting at right side of top, moisture ring near back of left side of top. Not Edge of right side of top exhibits a spot of fill-in to veneer. Both sides have a split spanning the length of each due to shrinkage. There is slight crackling to veneer of drawers, wood loss to trim of second to lowest drawer, very slight veneer loss above lowest key escutcheon. Scalloped apron shows some slight wood loss to bottom edge. Scalloped apron shows some slight abrasions at bottom commensurate with age and use. Front right leg has a slight split. Slight loss to trim at left bottom side of drawers. Legs demonstrate wear commensurate with age and use.
