American, Late 19th century (circa 1870s-1880s). An Aesthetic Movement ebonized wood pedestal in the form of an Doric column with parcel gilt decoration, the round top surmounting the turned column capital over flower head carved turning with gilt central discs over a gilt brass banding of raised sunflowers, surmounting the column shaft with a pattern of incised tall gilt sunflowers in urns, over the base gilt brass banding of conforming sunflowers over molded torus, resting on a cavetto molded plinth. Approximate height 41.25", diameter of top 12.5", depth of plinth 13.5".
Pedestal is structurally sound. Circular top displays an area of wood loss as well as slight lifting veneer. Molding framing top exhibits minor scattered wood loss and indentations. Shaft of pedestal has original gilding and metalwork.
