American, 19th century. A Harrisonburg, Virginia primitive monochrome cut sheet iron full body fish form weather vane with flat embossed fins to top and bottom of body, splayed fins to either side of body, and pierced hole for eye - one side of body with two everted loops for attaching to a rod or pole. Approximate height 8", width 23". Provenance: acquired by the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia from John L. Long, Merry Oak Antiques, Mineral, Virginia, in a private sale on November 17, 1984.
Areas of rusting, corrosion with loss of finish as would be expected from exposure to exterior elements. Small bend in back fin. One side of the body line incised at mouth, fins and tail. Two recent screws added to the other side with wire for hanging.
