- Lot Description
Alex Katz (American, b. 1927). "Alex (Self Portrait)" - 1970, lithograph in colors, limited edition 22/100, pencil signed and numbered lower left. Cartoonish print depicting the artist's face against a landscape backdrop seen beside chin, the figure with dark receding hairline and wearing rimless sunglasses and blue t-shirt. Framed approximately 36.75" x 29". Sheet size approximately 29.625" x 21.25". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Benno & Babette Rothschild, Columbus, Georgia.
Condition
Not examined out of the frame in order to preserve condition, but sheet mounted floating within the frame therefore entire sheet recto is visible. Even overall toning to sheet. Some rippling overall and impressed edges due to general handing. Lower left corner with fold/crease mark, approximately 5mm. Single deckled edge at right with vertical band of minor fading or discoloration, also with minor creasing - not distracting. No apparent rips, abrasions, losses, or pin holes.
