• Lot Description
  Alberto del Pozo (Cuban, 1945-1992), "Ogun"-1980, from the Santería Series, lithograph on paper, signed and dated in print in lower right quadrant "Alberto del Pozo / 80", artist's proof noted, titled and signed in graphite in lower margin "AP Ogun Alberto del Pozo". Figural print with mosaic-like composition depicting Ogun, the blacksmith god of metal and war in Afro-Cuban Santería; Ogun is shown with an arrow, axe and the machete; in the foreground relics and symbols of Ogun's narrative including the three-footed pot with iron utensils (representing blacksmithing) as well as an avocado, lamb and smoking tobacco (each of which are offerings accepted by Ogun). Framed approximately 33.25" x 27.75". Sight approximately 24" x 18". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Dr. & Mrs. Calvin Wayne McLarin, Atlanta, Georgia. Note: Alberto del Pozo's work is held in the permanent collection of the University of Miami. In his Santería Series, del Pozo depicts the principal gods and goddesses that comprise the Afro-Cuban religion of Santería, which is based on Yoruba beliefs and traditions, with some Roman Catholic elements.
