Albert Ernest (Beanie) Backus (American, 1906-1991), "View of Florida Coastline"-circa 1960s, oil on canvas, signed lower right "A.E. Backus". Florida Highwaymen landscape painting depicting a view of the Florida coast line, possibly of St. Lucie (Northern Coast) with green palm trees, sandy beach, and ocean under large clouds in blue sky. Framed approximately 34.5" x 39.75". Unframed approximately 25.25" x 30.25". Provenance: Gift from the artist to consignor's mother in the 1950s. Thence by decent to current owner, historian Arthur E. Chapman of Woodstock, Georgia.
Slight cracquelure visible, however paint layer appears to be stable. Under black light examination, minor in-painting to top edge of work likely from rubbing on frame, additional minor retouch to sky at right side (not visibly distracting). Painting has been relined. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
