After Anthony van Dyck (Flemish,1599-1641), "Rest on the Flight into Egypt", oil on canvas, unsigned. Late 19th/Early 20th century copy after a detailed view of the left side of the Old Master's masterpiece (circa 1629/1630) currently housed in the Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany. Painting depicting Joseph, the Virgin Mary and a nude baby Jesus (the Holy Family) in an intimate embrace resting on their journey. Framed approximately 42.25" x 39.5". Unframed approximately 36" x 33".
Scattered craquelure throughout, however, paint layer appears to be stable. Under blacklight examination, scattered retouches or in-painting predominately on Joseph's face, lower background and baby Jesus' torso. Painting on original canvas and has not been relined. Age determined by oxidation on canvas and stretcher as well as level of alligatoring.
