- Lot Description
Japanese, 19th/20th centuries. A collection of four kiseru tobacco pipes and one bronze portable yatate, group comprising one solid celadon jade pipe of straight cylindrical form with constricted neck and bulbous mouth piece; one mixed metal mounted sekishu kiseru bamboo pipe with figural scene to mouth piece depicting a hunting tiger; a white metal (possibly silver) mounted sekishu kiseru tobacco pipe with fluted details to mouth piece and end piece; a signed polished bronze mounted kiseru pipe; a heavy burnished bronze yatate, a portable or travel inkwell and brush stand, with "endpiece" hinging open to reveal a well for ink, the handle decorated with serpentine key motif; a hardwood pipe case with medallion to front bearing two lines of incised calligraphic marks; and an ebonized wood pipe case with applied silver cricket or insect amid leaves. Jade pipe approximate length 7", mixed metal pipe approximate length 9.5", silver mounted pipe approximate length 7", polished bronze mounted pipe approximate length 7.75", censer approximate length 8".
