• Lot Description
  John Leech (English, 1817 - 1864), four framed and glazed hand embellished chromolithographs, comprising "Gone Away," hand detailed chromolithograph, signed "John Leech" in script, depicting a fox hunt scene, in the foreground a woman in a green dress and hat sits sidesaddle on a rearing horse and a gentleman on horseback calls out to the woman with his riding crop extended, in the midground the fox hunting scene unfolds with multiple mounted hunt followers wearing traditional hunting attire (known as "pinks") gallop toward the huntsman on the far left of the picture plane where he is directing a hound, in the background gray skies meet the tree line in the distance; "A Friendly Mount," hand embellished chromolithograph, unsigned, depicting a hunt follower in traditional attire on horseback extending his riding crop towards the hunt while a second hunt follower receives help from an attendant to mount his horse; "The Noble Science," hand embellished chromolithographs, unsigned, depicting three men on horseback, in the foreground a rider in top hat and blue overcoat confidently bounds over a locked fence, in the midground two mounted riders with crops in hand look on in apparent surprise, in the background rolling pastures are met with overcast skies in the distance; "A Capital Finish" depicting a fox hunt follower on horseback motioning with riding crop in hand towards the left of the picture plane, a peasant on foot carrying a large bundle of sticks gestures towards the town in the painting's midground, in the background another fox hunt follower emerges through the tree thicket. "Gone Away" sight dimensions 24" x 15", framed dimensions 27" x 18.25"; "A Friendly Mount" sight dimensions 25" x 16", framed dimensions 28.125" x 19.125"; "The Noble Science" sight dimensions 24.25" x 17", framed dimensions 27.5" x 20"; "A Capital Finish" sight dimensions 24" x 16", framed dimensions 27" x 19.5".
