- Lot Description
William Thomson (Active 1810-1833 & 1841-1845, New York), first half 19th century. A three-piece Federal coin silver tea set comprising the tea pot, cream pitcher and handled covered sugar. Each decorated with band of grape vines, grapes and leaves and gadrooning. Center gadrooning to one side of each with monogrammed initials "To" and "From". Both the teapot and sugar have figural finials modeled as a seated squirrel eating a nut. The teapot with scaly beast as the spout. Mark of “W Thomson” (script) in rectangular punch on base of each piece. Approximate height of tea pot 9.75" (to finial), width 12.75" (handle to spout). Approximate height of sugar 9.25" (to finial),. width 9.25" (handle to handle). Approximate height of creamer 7.25" (to handle), width 6.5" (handle to spout). Overall approximate weight 59.15 troy ounces.
Condition
Handle on the teapot is loose; wood banding is chipped. Lid to sugar with dents to rim, sugar bowl with dents to collar. Foot on creamer and sugar bowl small bend. Scattered dings and dents commensurate with age and usage.
