Whiting Manufacturing Company (American/ New York, 1866-1926). A 265+ piece flatware set in the "Madame Jumel" pattern (began manufacture in 1908) including twelve nearly complete place settings. Comprising of 19 dinner forks (7 5/8" long), 12 luncheon forks (6.75" long), 12 three tine salad forks (6" long), 6 solid fish forks (6" long), 12 ice cream forks (5" long), 12 oyster forks (5.5" long), 12 dinner knives (9 3/8" long), 12 luncheon knives (8 5/8" long), 8 luncheon knives (9.25" long), 12 steak knives (8 3/8" long), 18 gumbo spoons (6.75" long), 12 round bowl bouillon or cream soup spoons (5" long), 54 fruit or orange spoons (5 7/8" long), 12 dessert or oval soup spoons (7" long), 12 iced tea spoons (7 3/8" long), 8 large flat butter spreaders (5 7/8" long), 1 butter spreader (6.25" long), 10 small flat butter spreaders (5" long), 1 master butter knife (7.25" long), 1 gravy ladle (7" long), 1 two-piece large solid bowl serving spoon & fork set (9" long), 1 two-piece steak carving set (fork 8 5/8", knife 9.5"), 1 large solid cold meat serving fork (8.75" long), 1 medium solid cold meat serving fork (7.5" long), 3 tablespoon/ serving spoons (8 1/8" long), 1 jelly or cake server (9.5" long), 1 jelly or cake server (9 3/8" long), 1 cheese server with stainless blade (6 1/8" long), 1 cheese server with silver plate blade (6"), 1 butter pick with two tines (6 1/8" long), 1 butter pick with two tines (6" long), 1 butter pick with one twisted tine (5 7/8" long), 1 pair of sugar tongs (4" long), 2 sugar spoons (5 7/8" long), 1 pierced bowl teaspoon (6" long), 1 solid basin cream ladle (5.25" long), and 1 solid basin mayonnaise ladle (5" long). Each piece marked on back with maker's mark, "sterling", and "Pat. 1909", excepting of one set of 8 luncheon knives measuring 9.25" that are marked Gorham as they were manufactured after Whiting merged with Gorham in 1924. Most pieces monogrammed "B". Total approximate weight 302.5 troy ounces (this weight has accommodated for 49 knives and service pieces with stainless steel blades by subtracting 0.5 troy ounces from the total per one of those pieces).
Very good condition. Recently polished. Minor scratches and wear commensurate with age.
