Japanese, 20th century. A collection of two 950 sterling silver items comprising a hinged cigarette case with etched courtly figural scene to front cover and still life with precious objects to back cover, the scenes with gilt accents; and a large square ladies powder compact with floral design to front cover. Each piece signed to exterior with calligraphic marks. Cigarette case marked to interior "Silver 950". Compact marked to interior with two unknown marks beside "950 FINE". Cigarette case approximate height 4.25", width 3.125". Compact approximately 4" square. Total approximate weight (including compact mirror) 10.965 troy ounces.
Cigarette case: overall in very good condition. Minor scratches, dents, and abrasions to exterior commensurate with age and general wear. Interior rim with minor pitting and oxidation. Compact: Minor scratches, dents, and abrasions to exterior commensurate with age and general use. One small dot of pitting to back cover, and a cluster of three small abrasions notable to back cover near clasp. Interior with some evidence of pitting and oxidation, not severe or distracting, around mirror. Accompanied with apparently original powder screen and puff.
