English, 18th century. A pair of hand colored engravings by Johannes "Jan" Kip (Netherlandish/ English, c.1652-1722). Group comprises of "Shurdington the Seat of Dulcibella Laurence, Relict of Wm. Laurence", inscribed lower right "J. Kip Delin e Sculp" (framed 26" x 28.5", unframed sight size 15.75" x 19.25"); and "Over. The Seat of John Dowell Esq.", inscribed lower right "J. Kip Delin e Sculp" (framed 25.5" x 28.25", unframed sight size 15" x 18"). Note: Kip and Knyff forged a career together producing views of country houses and gardens for "Britannia Illustrata (aka. Views of Several of the Queens Palaces and also of the Principal Seats of the Nobility & Gentry of Great Britain)", published in England in the first quarter of 18th century. This book is among the most important English topographical publications of the 18th century.
Shurdington engraving with slight foxing to sheet, print folded in half at an earlier date and has a tear at the bottom under mat, item not laid down but attached with hinging tape to mat, visible mat burn when examined outside of frame, worn corners, slight losses an tears on right edge, minor dirt visible on margins. Over the Seat of Dowell engraving not laid down, slight toning to sheet, visible mat burn when examined out of frame, folded in half at an earlier date resulting in tear on fold line at bottom running into the lower portion of the image and a smaller tear at the top, loss to bottom left corner, losses to bottom edge.
