American, third quarter 19th century. A set of two thumbprint glass and pewter tankards comprising of a large stein or tankard of cylindrical cranberry glass with outswept round base and clear glass handle of c form, and mounted with a square pewter figural medallion to one side and hinged lid to top, marked to the interior of lid Schall & Co; and a second smaller ruby glass stein of similar form and decoration, apparently unmarked. Large tankard approximate height 11.25". Small tankard approximate height 9.25". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Hougk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Both tankards are in overall very good condition. Some oxidation and surface scratches to the pewter. Both have scattered small included bubbles (under surface). Typical wear on base as would be expected with age and contact with surface. No chips, cracks or repairs noted.
