English, 19th century. A 40 piece set of English Imari ironstone china in the pattern "China Boquet", comprising 8 complete four piece place settings plus additional place setting pieces. Set comprises eight bread and butter plates (7.5" diameter), 12 salad plates (9.375" diameter), 9 dinner plates (10.25" diameter), and 11 soup bowls (10.375" diameter). Most pieces with stamped mark to underside "China Boquet" within a scrolled wreath cartouche, several dinner plates also with stamped mark "W. M." over "F.", several various pieces also with handwritten iron red "100x". Provenance: From the Private Collection of Ann Jacob of Highlands, North Carolina. Note: several online databases have attributed the above mentioned mark of initials to William Morley.
All with crazing to glaze. All with wear to gilt and highlighted elements commensurate with age and use. All with wear to bottoms with some discoloration commensurate with age. Some scattered flakes to foot, all with some scattered wear, abrasions, glazing losses, chips and flakes on rim. Some with scattered glazing imperfections. One soup plate with fracture, another with paper and adhesive residue on tondo. One bread and butter plate with substantial residue on bottom, another with a more significant chip on rim. Seven dinner plates with hairline fractures, all appear to be stable. One salad plate with large chip on rim, another with significant staple repairs, two with hairline fractures, one with loss on underside. No further signs of damage, loss or repair.
