- Lot Description
Chinese, late 19th century. An incomplete porcelain Chinese Export tea service comprising 11 teacups and demitasse cups in two sizes and 16 saucers and dessert plates in two sizes. Each piece decorated with hand painted enamels in a variant of Rose Medallion pattern with figural and bird cartouches surrounding a central tondo and reserved on a geometric ground, all in tones of blue, green, and yellow. Large teacups approximate diameter 3.875". Large dishes approximate diameter 6'. Small demitasse cups approximate diameter 2.75". Small dishes approximate diameter 5.25". Provenance: From the Collection of Mr. Gerald Darby, Owner of Darby Mitchell Antiques of Atlanta, Georgia.
Condition
Smaller demitasse cup with minor flea bites to mouth rim. Larger cup with chip/loss to handle; one with chips to mouth and one with small flea bite to mouth. Saucers and dessert plates with scattered chips and small hairline fractures that have old repairs not readily observed but fluorescing under black light. Most pieces with enamel and gilt loss. Most with wear to foot rims. Wear is commensurate with age and usage.
