- Lot Description
French School, 19th century. "The Portrait Artist", oil on wood panel, indistinguishably signed lower right. Painting depicts an interior scene with two seated women, one behind a counter holding a small painting and showing it to the younger woman seated across the counter from her below a hanging oil lamp, the younger woman with long braided hair and a basket on her lap, and the older woman wearing a head scarf and striped dress, the interior with many fruits and vegetables stacked to lower left of scene and books and bottles stacked on shelves all around. Framed approximately 22.75" x 20.625", unframed approximately 15.75" x 13.5".
