- Lot Description
Continental School, 19th century. "Mother and Child At Play", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Painting depicting a Dutch woman and her small child engaged in play, the blonde boy sitting on her shoulders as the woman runs up a hill, both being shoeless and wearing somewhat tattered clothing and having looks of glee on their similarly structured faces, the woman holding an arm and a leg of the child as he raises his other hand up to feel the rushing air as she runs, with a small brown dog beside the pair looking up at the figures as it runs along the cracked stone path, with wheat covered rolling hills in the distance and mountain foothills along the centrally place horizon line. Inscribed to verso of canvas "George Rowney & Co. London". Framed approximately 39.5" x 34.5", unframed approximately 30" x25".
