American School, 19th century. "Portrait of Young Girl with Flowers", oil on canvas, apparently unsigned. Likely a Hudson River School portrait, painting depicts a young blonde girl seated on a red blanket in a landscape setting with her ankles crossed below her dlicate white dress that falls just below each shoulder below a round face with wide blue eyes and rosy cheeks, her blonde hair at chin length and parted at center, the girl with a collection of flower blossoms on her lap supported by her dress, and a view of a vast hilly river landscape, possibly the Hudson River valley, to upper left of composition. Framed approximately 41.625" x 34", unframed approximately 35.875" x 27.875".
Painting has been relined. Slight edge of original canvas visible and appears to be oxidized commensurate with age (canvas with wider weave). Under black light examination, there are some scattered minor areas with in painting including a small U shaped area on girl's forehead, some minor thin in-painting on cracks around nose and some small spots scattered in background. In painting not apparent to naked eye. Light craquelure commensurate with age, however, paint layer is stable.
