A relay torch from the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, Georgia, presented with other ephemera in a shadowbox. The torch is composed of steel, brass, and oak wood and is engraved on two brass bands with the Atlanta Olympic logo and names of other host cities for the Games. Torch is mounted to the left of a signed photograph of boxing legend Muhammad Ali lighting the Olympic Flame during the Opening Ceremonies in downtown Atlanta (signed center in gold marker), and a ticket to the Opening Ceremonies is mounted lower right. Lower center is a plaque inscribed "Muhammad Ali, Opening Day * July 19, 1996 'The Lighting of the Torch' Olympic Stadium * Atlanta, GA". Overall approximately 43.5" x 33.25", torch approximately 31.75" tall. Note: The modern Olympic Flame is lit several months in advance of any Olympic Games in Olympia, Greece, the flame being ignited by the sun using a parabolic mirror. The torch briefly travels around Greece in a running relay, and then starts its transfer to the host city after a ceremony in Athens. The Olympic Torch Relay ends on the day of the opening ceremony in the central stadium of the Games where the flame remains ignited until the closing ceremony of that Games.
