International Silver Co. (American (Connecticut), founded 1898), circa 1931. A large and impressive three handled sterling silver trophy of urn form raised on a spreading ring foot and bearing three large scrolling acanthine handles joined at shoulder and knee below the undulating rim, with chased floral and scroll decocration on tondo and inscribed to front "Raphael Semmes Trophy / Class B / Stock Runabout Race / Presidents Cup Regatta / 1931 / Won by / Jack Corcoran / in 'This 'L-Duit" and to back "To Skipper from Jack". Underside with impressed maker's mark over "sterling / C 1785". Approximate height 12.25", width across handles 12", diameter of base 6". Approximate weight 49.2 troy ounces. Note: while it is unknown from which "Presidents Cup Regatta" this trophy hails, Raphael Semmes (1809-1877) (for whom the trophy is named presumably because of the officer's wartime naval feats) was an officer in the Confederate Navy during the American Civil War for which he was Captain of the CSS Alabama and later promoted to rear admiral and brigadier general in the Confederate Army.

As such, Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery is not responsible for any omissions or errors to these condition reports. It is important to note that the absence of a condition report does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition.
Prior to bidding, please consult the additional photos provided and ask all pertinent questions (i.e. condition, size, etc.). Packing and shipping is the responsibility of the buyer, please see our website for a list of shipping companies. For a condition report, please email Condition@AandOauctions.com. Please note, Ahlers & Ogletree Auction Gallery sells items at a rate of approximately 80 to 100 lots per hour in a live auction setting. Since the auction moves quickly, online bidding platforms are,at times, unable to keep up with the pace. To avoid potential disappointment when bidding on an online platform, consider placing a realistic absentee bid in advance of the sale. Priority, in regards to bidding, goes to in-house floor bidders. Occasionally, the auctioneer may reject a live online bid and/or reopen a lot after the close of online bidding (typically due to a missed in-house floor bid). Due to this possibility, at times the online bidding platform will show an online bidder as the winning bid when they are not. All final winning bidders will be notified via invoicing from Ahlers & Ogletree typically by the Monday immediately following the sale. To bid with Ahlers & Ogletree as a phone or absentee bidder, please feel free to email us at bid@AandOAuctions.com. Lastly, please make sure to read over our firm's Terms and Conditions of Sale before bidding.
