Gubelin (Swiss, founded 1854), circa 1920s. A Louis XV style gilt bronze, enamel, and marble mantle or desk 8 day clock, the ovular dial with guilloche enamel face bearing hand painted mountainous landscape scene with a country cottage set beside a river overlaid with gilt dial ring with black Roman numerals and scroll gilt hands, the clock face supported to either low side by a winged putto surmounting a rectangular green marble base with canted corners raised on beaded bun feet below patera blocks. Marked to back of clock face "Swiss", "Gubelin Lucerne 8 Jours", and "15934" over "1780". Overall approximate height 7.5", width 6.375", depth 3". Provenance: From the Estate of Mary L. Haugk, Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Apparently in working condition. Clock winds and ticks, but apparently slow in keeping time. Would recommend servicing. Gilt dial with area of loss from 5:15-6:15 and otherwise with minor areas of loss. Guilloche enamel face with spiderweb cracking to pink sky of landscape scene, not overly distracting. Some glue residue between crystal and bronze at 6:30 position as well as beside each putto's hand. Dark surface grime to bronze strap below putti. Structure stable with apparently original screws and feet. Bronze with patina commensurate with age with some wear due to general handling.
