American, likely Southern, 18th century. A Queen Anne dressing table or low boy, the mahogany wood top decorated with molded edge surmounting a stained burled walnut facade comprising of three drawers including one long upper drawer and two lower short drawers, the shaped apron decorated with two acorn drop pendants, all raised on cabriole legs on pad feet. Oak and yellow pine secondary wood, the drawer bottoms replaced. Approximate height 32.5", width 30.5", depth 20". Provenance: From the Estate of Sam & Florence Inman, Atlanta, Georgia.
Condition
The three board top exhibits a replaced board at back (this board thinner than the front two with different but similar wood), top also exhibits slight surface scratches and abrasions likely from dragging objects across surface of top, new plywood board at underside of top (not visible from exterior), top also exhibits new rounded nails, all drawers have new plywood bottom boards, drawer guides also exhibit new wood. Left side of case exhibits several fractures in veneer near front end likely from external conditions (humid climate), back right corner block exhibits beige putty likely as a repair, knees exhibit slight scratches to wood, right leg exhibits losses to wood at edge of scrolled knee, bottoms of drops also exhibit slight losses to wood (not very visible), all feet exhibit scratches.
