English. Mid-18th century. A George II (1727-1760) walnut corner chair, the molded crest with cyma-curved edges joined by curved arms terminating in hand rests decorated with carved flowers, surmounting three turned stiles in the form of Doric columns, the pierced splats joining molded shoes shaped in the form of Grecian ogees, the seat upholstered in 20th-century floral fabric in shades of peach and rose, resting on a cabriole front leg with scrolled knee block terminating in a pad foot, the three turned back legs terminating in turned feet. Approximate height 31.5", width 26" (from left stile to right stile), depth 26", seat to floor 18". Provenance: From the Estate of Henry G. Muecke Jr., Atlanta, Georgia.
Structurally sound. Added metal caps to 2 feet. Repair to scrolled bracket. Missing corner block under seat above scrolled bracket. One stretcher with 2 repairs and patch (see image #9). One stretcher probably not original to piece (see image #8). Added wood to bottom of right splat, probably due to shrinkage. Chips to pad feet. Scattered nicks and minor chips to wood commensurate with age and usage. Seat and fabric not original to piece. Fabric shows wear; no stains, rips or odors.
