Netherlandish, 18th century. A carved oak cornice board or architectural element of long rectangular form with curved sides, with relief carved sun mask at center flanked by scrolls with lion's heads and scrolling acanthus leaf bodies with negative space filled with floriform punching, the moulding at top comprised of a band of foliates. Approximate height 9", width 50".Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Fragment of a larger architectural piece. Missing bottom strip and with 7 small mounting holes visible. Scattered splits to scene predominately at top and bottom where it meets cornice form. Later wooden supports. Scattered small losses throughout, not particularly distracting--predominately on edges and corners. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
