Gorham (American (Rhode Island), founded 1831), circa 1886. A sterling silver and copper wine bottle coaster of round form with secured hammered copper liner surmounted by a short wall formed by a band of openwork rings, with a wide flat saucer rim decorated with a pierced ring of repousse roses, lilies, and other flowers amid leaves and surrounded by a scalloped band. Interior of foot marked with maker's mark used during the final quarter of the 19th century, also "STERLING", "75", and with a gothic cross within a square cartouche indicating date of production as 1886. Approximate overall diameter 6.25", diameter of opening 3.875", height 1.25". Total approximate weight 5.5 troy ounces.
Light oxidation to copper bottom. Minor undulating to repousse rim. Some minor losses (barely noticeable) on repousse rim. No other signs of damage, loss or repair.
