17th century oak carved commode or chest, the top with gadrooned edge and foliate carved frieze over four drawers all paneled and carved with leafy ivy foliage, mounted with split tail pulls within a ribbon twist border, the sides paneled with a leafy tree, the other with a fretwork carved interlaced monogram against a stippled ground, raised on front bun feet. Height 37.5", width 39", depth 21.5".
Structurally sound. Two board top with seam. Drawers open and shut evenly. There is shrinkage to the interior of drawers. Repair to lower right side panel. Opposite side panel has vertical shrinkage. Minor nicks, losses and scratches commensurate with age and usage.
