English, 17th century. Elaborate and detailed needlework picture with lush game park scene throughout with roaming animals and insects including a bird, a snail, an antlered deer, a lion, a grasshopper, and butterflies amid a rolling green landscape with fruit trees and flowering plants, views of castle at back right and back left, cottage right of center on high horizon line under shallow blue cloudy sky, figures in garden with young beautiful woman in pink gown playing lute or mandolin, holding hands in courting scenes with two young men (one in red jacket, the other in blue), and a scene with man on horseback hunting a bear with a spear, figures likely part of a progressive story line. Overall framed approximately 26.5" x 45.125". Provenance: From the Estate of Dr. Woody Cobbs and Mrs. Honor Cobbs, Atlanta, Georgia.
Scattered moth damage in upper region (predominately in sky). Scattered restorations throughout, predominately intended to stabilize and connect separations and losses. Joined down center with visible seam line. Item not examined out of frame. Colors rich with light fading due to minor light exposure. No other overt or significant damage, loss or repair.
