English, late 19th/ early 20th century. A set of twelve Chippendale style mahogany dining chairs comprising 10 side chairs and 2 armchairs, each with triple scalloped tassel adorned seat back with rosette ears over a pierced Gothic splat with central swag suspended from rosettes, surmounting a trapezoidal padded seat with striped satin upholstery, altogether raised on four legs - at front with cabriole legs with acanthine knees terminating in ball and claw feet, and at back with straight legs on pad feet - the armchairs with serpentine arms with scrolling acanthine handgrips. Each chair approximate height 38.875", depth 23", seat height 20", seat depth 18.75". Side chair width 23.5", armchair width 25.5". Provenance: Walker McIntyre Antiques, Atlanta, Georgia, whereby acquired by a Private Collection, Atlanta, Georgia.
All chairs are structurally sound and overall in very good condition. One side chair with wear to finish on edge of right stile. One side chair with scratches to front of seatrail. One chair with minor chip with loss at right knee; not obvious or distracting. There are minor scratches and nicks to finish commensurate with age and usage. Likely refreshed. Fabric appears to be clean and is free of odors, stains or rips. Underside of each seatrail in back carved respectively 'I', 'II' (2 chairs), 'III' (2 chairs), 'IIII' (2 chairs), "V', 'VI', 'VII', 'VIII'.
