- Lot Description
Custom made by Gorham Manufacturing Special Department sterling desk set for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, the set consists of a sterling silver topped cigar humidor, a cigar ashtray, a note pad holder (monogrammed) and letter opener (monogrammed). The items are decorated with the Pinkerton 'Hands Up' character and an airplane, dirigible, railroad locomotive and a battle ship. This desk set dates circa 1920. The set carries Gorham Sterling Silver marks as well as special order department marks. Humidor measures 8.75"L x 7"W x 2.75"H; ashtray measures 6.5"W and weighs 224 grams; note pad holder is marked sterling (weighted) and measures 5 1/8"L x 3 18"W x 1"H; letter opener measures 9.5"L and weighs 204 grams.
