  Matt Mullins uses painting as a way to discover the extraordinary in the ordinary and to find deeper meaning and connection from his day-to-day life. His recent paintings most often grow out of experiences and observations he has had in the Northern New Mexican wilderness near his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Other times, they are inspired by memories or from places from his past.
  
  Matt Mullins says, “Even though I paint representationally, I am more interested in how a painting feels rather than how it looks. Once started with the painting, I pay little to no attention to my original source photo and work mostly from memory. I find working from memory allows for more subjectivity, more surprises, and also allows the painting to align more closely with my personal experiences and feelings from the places I paint, rather than just what the camera recorded. ”
  
  Matt Mullins makes his paintings with small repetitive brushstrokes and surprising colors that dazzle the eye and prevent the viewer’s focus from landing in one spot for too long. The brushstrokes mimic the direction of growth or erosion in the natural objects and attempt to animate every tree, rock, drop of water, or pebble with the energy of human attention.

• Shipping Info

  • The purchaser of this piece will be responsible for making an appointment to pick up the item in-person from 516 ARTS or pay for the packaging and shipment via the method of their choice.
    
    Winning items will be available after Wednesday, October 6, 2021 for in-person pick up at 516 ARTS by scheduled appointment.
    
    Buyers will be contacted the week following the auction to discuss pick-up or shipping arrangements. The buyer is responsible for all shipping and packaging costs.
    
    516 ARTS does not provide in-house shipping; we will make arrangements through our local shipper.
