Yves Doare (French, 1943): Precis de Decomposition. Etching on cold pressed paper. Signed, titled, and numbered (EA) in pencil below, framed.
Many of Yves Doare's original etchings and engravings explore the theme he has termed, "a kind of geological memory." Using as his starting point the actual etching plate or engraving block, Doare explores the surface's capacity to reveal its own forms and figures. Much like a sculptor, Yves Doare thus orchestrates the emergence of the random forms which the surface suggests. What most strikes the viewer of Yves Doare's art is his superb delineation of line and form, creating a highly charged matrix of surrealist elements. The more one studies the intricate imagery of L'Esprit de Terre the more one marvels at the art of Yves Doare.
